It can include different tactics, like influencer marketing, TikTok advertising and creating viral organic content.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok marketing can help businesses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase brand awareness<\/li>\n<li>Build engaged communities<\/li>\n<li>Sell products and services<\/li>\n<li>Get feedback from customers and audiences<\/li>\n<li>Provide customer service<\/li>\n<li>Advertise products and services to target audiences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-452205-_hnhx0frixdjd\"\/>What is TikTok influencer marketing?<\/h3>\n<p>TikTok influencer marketing involves businesses partnering with creators to promote their brand. Companies will connect with influencers and agree upon a business arrangement in which payment (or goods or services of value) is exchanged for content. For example, a kitchen brand might pay a foodie influencer to post a TikTok promoting their blender.<\/p>\n<p>Influencer marketing can be more subtle, too, like this product placement in this creator\u2019s video.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"\/>\n<p>Influencer marketing is everywhere\u2014Bretman Rock is <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@bretmanrock\/video\/7294733018202164522?lang=en\">promoting hair products<\/a> and Emily Mariko is <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@emilymariko\/video\/7328219793167781163\">promoting her own tote bags<\/a>. But don\u2019t be fooled: finding the perfect match for your brand is tricky, and it\u2019s important to <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/influencer-marketing\/\">do all the research you can<\/a> before committing to a creator.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-452205-_dshehlaokp2\"\/>What is TikTok affiliate marketing?<\/h3>\n<p>While the influencer marketing world can be a bit like the wild west (there\u2019s no real rules beyond <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/sponsored-post\/\">marking content as sponsored<\/a>), <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/shop.tiktok.com\/business\/en\/affiliate\">affiliate marketing<\/a> is an official, platform-sanctioned marketing strategy for businesses.<\/p>\n<p>First: what is affiliate marketing? In affiliate marketing, creators promote products and then earn commission off of sales. You\u2019ve seen it before: when an influencer says something like \u201cUse the code Alyssa20 to get 20% off these shoes,\u201d that\u2019s affiliate marketing. The brand can tell how many sales the influencer made by looking at how many times the coupon code was used, and that influencer is compensated accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok\u2019s affiliate marketing can help connect you with creators and will keep track of all of the sales made for you\u2014in fact, the platform will even pay the creator for you.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok offers three different affiliate marketing options:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The Shop Plan. <\/strong>Tiktok\u2019s simplest affiliate marketing plan: you set a flat commission rate for all of your products. For example, creators get 5% of sales they make on any product.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Open Plan<\/strong>. In this plan, the business can set different commission rates for different products (and it\u2019s open to all creators)<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Targeted Plan.<\/strong> This option allows you to invite specific creators to promote specific products.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Want to learn more about affiliate marketing? marketing on TikTok, you\u2019ll need a <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/business\/en-US\">TikTok Business account<\/a> (don\u2019t worry, it\u2019s free).<\/p>\n<p>Tiktok business accounts include features like an email button, access to the <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/business\/en-US\/blog\/introducing-business-creative-hub-content-inspiration-at-your-fingertips\">business creative hub<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ads.tiktok.com\/business\/creativecenter\/music\/pc\/en\">commercial music library<\/a>, options to add <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/how-to-write-effective-ctas\/\">calls to action<\/a>, auto-replies for DMs and more.<\/p>\n<p>If you already have a personal TikTok account, it\u2019s easy (and again, free) to switch it to a business account.<\/p>\n<p>First, go to your profile and tap the menu button\u2014that\u2019s the three horizontal lines in the top right corner.<\/p>\n<p>Then, hit You can\u2019t create engaging content for TikTok if you aren\u2019t up-to-date on what\u2019s engaging.<\/p>\n<p>Explore the different features available on the TikTok app, and note what challenges, editing styles and sounds are trending.<\/p>\n<p>Read up on the TikTok algorithm, too. Since the app has over<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/tiktok-stats\/#TikTok_user_statistics\"> a billion global active users<\/a>, the answer is probably yes (unless you\u2019re eyeing business in India, because that country has <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/article\/tiktok-ban.html\">banned the app since 2020<\/a>). Still, it\u2019s important to research your target audience to make sure that TikTok is right for you.<\/p>\n<p>Before you start creating content, learn about <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/tiktok-stats\/\">TikTok demographics<\/a> and identify those who might be interested in <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/how-to-get-tiktok-followers\/\">following you<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tiktok has a rep for being popular with teens, but the platform\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/tiktok-stats\/#TikTok_user_statistics\">user stats<\/a> may surprise you: about <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1299771\/tiktok-global-user-age-distribution\/\">32% of TikTok\u2019s global active users<\/a> are between the ages of 25 and 34. But it is true that TikTok\u2019s younger users are loyalists \u2014 76% of American social media users between the ages of 18 and 24 use the app. In fact, one Google exec even admitted that <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/07\/12\/google-exec-suggests-instagram-and-tiktok-are-eating-into-googles-core-products-search-and-maps\/?tpcc=tcplustwitter\">40% of GenZers are more likely to use TikTok than Google<\/a> when looking for a place to go for lunch.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve zeroed in on a potential audience, research what types of content they like and engage with. Then start to brainstorm content ideas for your brand.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-452205-_6c52hk6aarlr\"\/>Perform a competitive audit<\/h3>\n<p>Not everything\u2019s a competition\u2026 but marketing on TikTok sure is. Are your competitors on TikTok? If they are, you could be missing out on the action. If they aren\u2019t, TikTok may be a way to gain a competitive advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Whether or not your competitors are on the platform, find at least three to five similar brands or organizations and see what they\u2019re up to. If it\u2019s helpful, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/social-media-swot-analysis\/\">use the S.W.O.T. framework<\/a> to identify each competitor\u2019s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.<\/p>\n<p>Because TikTok is a creator-led platform, don\u2019t rule out including influencers in this exercise.
