Among other facts established, Google pays Apple $20 billion annually for default search status on iPhones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoogle is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly,\u201d Judge Mehta wrote in\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/assets.bwbx.io\/documents\/users\/iqjWHBFdfxIU\/rZ1UlL.0yQbo\/v0\" target=\"_blank\">his decision<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key details<\/strong>. Here are the main points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Judge Amit Mehta found Google violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act, which prohibits monopolies<\/li>\n<li>The court focused on\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/google-doj-closing-arguments-begin-440144\" target=\"_blank\">Google\u2019s exclusive search deals<\/a>\u00a0with Android and Apple devices as key to its anticompetitive behaviour.<\/li>\n<li>The ruling focuses on Google\u2019s liability, not remedies.<\/li>\n<li>Decision comes after a\u00a010-week trial\u00a0last fall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why we care.<\/strong>\u00a0This is doubtless the beginning of a long story rather than the end of one.
