Clear goals will guide your analysis.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a good idea to use the <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/smart-social-media-goals\/\">SMART goal-setting framework<\/a>, since it ensures you create goals that are straightforward to track and report.<\/p>\n<p>To make sure your goals are realistic, make sure to base them on benchmarks specific to your industry and the (Most social media platforms offer built-in analytics, but you can also use third-party tools for a more comprehensive analysis\u2026 like, ahem, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hootsuite.com\/products\/insights\">Hootsuite Insights<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>If it makes sense for your team, you can get even more specific and break things down by format within a network, such as <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/how-to-use-instagram-stories\/\">Stories<\/a> vs. posts vs. <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/instagram-reels\/\">Reels<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what metrics you choose, provide some previous results for context. After all, data means nothing in a vacuum. If you\u2019re reporting on a campaign, look for a similar past campaign to compare what you achieved.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re creating a regular weekly or monthly report, track your results compared to the previous several weeks or months. This allows you to see ongoing trends. You could also compare your results to the same period from the previous year, to account for any seasonal trends.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5: Analyze performance<\/h3>\n<p>Data doesn\u2019t mean anything if you don\u2019t think about it \u2014\u00a0and form conclusions or insights.<\/p>\n<p>What do the numbers you\u2019ve painstakingly compiled show you? What kind of patterns, trends, or anomalies do you spot here? Identify which content and strategies contributed most to your success\u2026 and where your weak spots still might be.<\/p>\n<p>Highlight anything that went specifically well during this reporting period.<\/p>\n<p>Look beyond the numbers here. Maybe you made contact with a <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/influencer-marketing\/\">key social media influencer<\/a> for the first time. Or maybe a particularly compelling review came in through social that you\u2019ll be able to use in future marketing campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>Include room in your social media report to share all forms of success that are relevant to your goals.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 6: Create visuals<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019ve got the tools to do so, visualize your data using graphs, charts, and tables. When are they online, and what do they do there?<\/p>\n<p>You can find this information in most platforms\u2019 internal analytics, but <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hootsuite.com\/platform\/analytics\">social media dashboards like Hootsuite<\/a> can help pull info from multiple platforms together in one spot.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 9: Provide competitive analysis<\/h3>\n<p>Pull some recent data about your competitors and industry \u2014 where are companies thriving or struggling?
