Canva reverses price hike for loyal customers

Small teams alarmed by a recent price increase by Canva are getting a reprieve. The company announced it’s reversing a decision to end early pricing for loyal customers.

Old plan is back. In April, Canva introduced a new Canva Teams pricing plan that charged accounts of three users or more $10 monthly, per person. Long-standing customers who were used to adding team members to their account for free were informed by email that they’d soon have to pay that new rate — at a 40% discount for the first year, full price after that.

Now, Canva is walking back that rate hike for legacy customers. They can go back to adding team members for free.

“Listening to our community is an incredibly important part of our DNA, and we understand this change may have felt too sudden for some, especially early adopters on our old pricing model,” said Canva in a blog post about the reversal.

Price pledge. Canva also pledged to educate users on future price changes.

The “Pricing Promise” issued by the company promises affordability, value and a 60-day warning on future increases.

Community rebound. Small business owners and educators were piqued by the price hike when they heard about it in August. Canva’s reversal promises to win back some brand love among its most loyal users.

Why we care. Canva’s road to success in the last decade came from offering a low-cost design platform for small business and individual creators. The company democratized digital design. Increasing prices on this broad cohort was a risky proposition Canva has now walked back.

Moving forward, the company has set the table for a future dialogue about the fair price and value of a platform that continues to add to its robust slate of capabilities, including the genAI Magic Studio suite and collaborative tools.
