By displaying this content with the results page, users get answers without needing to click through to a website (hence \u201czero-click\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Zero-click search content can appear within a SERP as featured snippets, knowledge panels, video carousels, and more. This principle is evident on a platform like Instagram, which still doesn\u2019t allow links in captions.<\/p>\n<p>Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat have now made it possible to add external links. But, this doesn\u2019t mean they <em>like<\/em> them\u2014<strong>the algorithms still seem to favor posts without links<\/strong>. We conducted several experiments that showed linkless posts performed better on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/linkless-tweets-experiment\/\">X<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/linkedin-engagement-experiment\/\">LinkedIn<\/a>, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/experiment-youtube-links\/\">adding YouTube links to posts hurt their reach<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, instead of trying to fight the algorithms, respect them. Create content that doesn\u2019t need users to leave a platform. Not only will your zero-click posts perform better, but also the algorithms will reward your future posts.<\/p>\n<h3><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-442670-_a8ne9itwiq31\"\/>Zero-click content benefits users<\/h3>\n<p>As a social media consumer, you already know this: we don\u2019t <em>love<\/em> flipping between platforms. Most users resist clicking links because it requires effort and interrupts scrolling.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this resistance, <strong>social media CTAs must be compelling to motivate users to open a link<\/strong>. That\u2019s why algorithms have learned to favor zero-click content.<\/p>\n<p>Human psychology and diminishing attention spans aside, zero-click content provides several benefits to users:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eliminates clickbait. <\/strong>No external links means no creative headlines enticing users to click through.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Guaranteed value.<\/strong> When posts reveal value upfront, users are more likely to read the thread or watch the video.<\/li>\n<li><strong>More content in less time.<\/strong> Users can keep scrolling through their timeline instead of reading a long blog post.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In many ways, creating clickthrough content can be <em>more <\/em>complex than creating zero-click content. So, creating zero-click content is a win-win for users and brands.<\/p>\n<h3><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-442670-_5240mhp8w9pt\"\/>Zero-click content can help build your social brand<\/h3>\n<p>The most successful brands on social aren\u2019t simply posting links to their latest blogs. They\u2019re giving the algorithms and their audiences what they want by creating content that offers value immediately instead of forcing people to click for more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You need to trust that if you gift your audience with value, they\u2019ll reward you with engagement<\/strong>. More engagement means more reach, which means more brand awareness and audience growth, which you can monetize down the road. Posting valuable and engaging content can also improve your <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/social-media-sentiment-analysis-tools\/\">brand sentiment<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/brand-reputation\/\">brand reputation<\/a>, and grow your social community as more users engage with and share your posts.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t mean <em>every<\/em> post you create has to be zero-click content. Perhaps zero-click content can be one of your <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/content-planning\/\">content themes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what balance you choose, know that publishing zero-click content will benefit your brand.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"8_tips_for_creating_effective_zero-click_content\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-442670-_1m8bhws063rg\"\/>8 tips for creating effective zero-click content<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although creating zero-click content requires more work than sharing links, it can be great for engagement and audience-building.<\/p>\n<p>Here are eight tips to help you create engaging and effective zero-click content.<\/p>\n<h3><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-442670-_bohgxw2198a9\"\/>1. Offer standalone value<\/h3>\n<p>Offering standalone value is the first and most important criterion when creating zero-click content. Good zero-click content teaches users something without needing to leave a platform.<\/p>\n<p>When crafting zero-click content, ask these questions to ensure you\u2019re providing standalone value:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are you trying to teach your audience?<\/li>\n<li>Keep basic storytelling principles in mind. Does it have a beginning, middle, and end?<\/li>\n<li>If this post came up in your <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/social-media-definitions\/fyp\/\">FYP<\/a>, would you learn something from it without visiting your website or consuming other content?<\/li>\n<li>Is it actionable?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A quick lesson in writing Zero-Click Content:<\/p>\n<p>These are my first and second drafts, side by side. Keep it short<\/h3>\n<p>When creating zero-click content, you want users to read the full post. Depending on the format, this means maximizing watch time, swiping through the whole carousel, or reading until the last post. In other words, your goal is to create bite-sized content that is only as long as it needs to be to share value.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some guidelines on format lengths to help you create posts that strike the right balance between length and value:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Short-form video (TikTok, Reels, Shorts): <strong>60-90 seconds<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Post captions (Facebook, Instagram, X): <strong>200-300 words<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Long-form videos (YouTube, etc.): <strong>2-3 minutes<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Threaded posts (X): Up to <strong>10 posts<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Carousels (LinkedIn, Instagram): <strong>5-10 slides<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe title=\"Embedded post\" src=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/embed\/feed\/update\/urn:li:share:7111104862746001408\" width=\"504\" height=\"1137\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\"><\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-442670-_yrtus3qe6vnv\"\/>4. Moreover, zero-click content has a slightly higher cognitive load than regular social content. You don\u2019t need to create brand new pieces each time\u2014instead, look to your best-performing existing content for ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ways to repurpose your long-form content:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take an excerpt from your <strong>podcast <\/strong>(and add visuals)<\/li>\n<li>Extract the three key takeaways from a <strong>video<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Pull the headlines and create an outline from a <strong>blog post <\/strong>or<strong> newsletter<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When repurposing long-form content, don\u2019t just add a teaser. Remember, the point is to give away value in the post itself. You can still add a link to the original content piece\u2014most likely, users will click through to read more details, see examples, or understand how it can apply to their business.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Content marketing of the past:<\/p>\n<p>1. Use native features (and stay up-to-date)<\/h3>\n<p>Social media algorithms tend to favor posts that use native features, especially when they\u2019re newly released. Because of this, creating zero-click content allows you to get creative with each platform\u2019s post formats.<\/p>\n<p>By using native features to create zero-click content, your posts will also stand out better in feeds. For example, early adopters of <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/linkedin-carousel\/\">LinkedIn carousels<\/a> earned <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.socialinsider.io\/blog\/linkedin-performance-benchmarks\/#1\">5x more clicks<\/a> than other post formats.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, LinkedIn recently removed the carousel feature, but you still post them using <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/linkedin-carousel\/\">this workaround<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, my best tips in this case are to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use native features as soon as they\u2019re released<\/li>\n<li>Stay up-to-date on platform and feature changes (by subscribing to the Hootsuite blog \ud83d\ude09)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><iframe title=\"Embedded post\" src=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/embed\/feed\/update\/urn:li:ugcPost:7089240185963433985\" width=\"504\" height=\"603\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"post-442670-_u0wnfpqnblin\"\/>7. Use the right metrics to measure success<\/h3>\n<p>With zero-click content, marketers can\u2019t use traditional <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/social-media-kpis-key-performance-indicators\/\">social media KPIs<\/a> like link clicks or conversions to gauge success.
