The publishers assert that Google has abused its dominant position in the advertising eco-system causing a decrease in the value of the publishers\u2019 inventory. A statement issued by the media groups\u2019 lawyers Geradin Partners and Stek said:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1038259\/MT_Post-text --><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>The media companies involved have incurred losses due to a less competitive market, which is a direct result of Google\u2019s misconduct. Without Google\u2019s abuse of its dominant position, the media companies would have received significantly higher revenues from advertising and paid lower fees for ad tech services. Crucially, these funds could have been reinvested into strengthening the European media landscape.<\/p>\n<p><cite><em><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/google-hit-with-23-bln-lawsuit-by-axel-springer-other-media-groups-2024-02-28\/\">Reuters<\/a><\/em><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Google\u2019s response.<\/strong> Google denies the allegations and has described them as \u201cspeculative and opportunistic.\u201d Oliver Bethell, Legal Director, Google, told our colleagues at Search Engine Land in a statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Google works constructively with publishers across Europe \u2013 our advertising tools, and those of our many adtech competitors, help millions of websites and apps fund their content, and enable businesses of all sizes to effectively reach new customers. These services adapt and evolve in partnership with those same publishers. This lawsuit is speculative and opportunistic. We\u2019ll oppose it vigorously and on the facts.<\/p>\n<p><cite><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/google-lawsuit-advertising-practices-media-groups-axelspringer-437982\">Search Engine Land<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Why we care. <\/strong>The European headwinds into which Google is sailing grow stronger.
